Google Is Building a "Firewall" Between Android and Motorola [Google]
When Google announced it was to acquire Motorola, it was obvious it wanted patents but unclear how Android and Motorola would interact in the future. According to Andy Rubin, who heads up Android, there’s going to be zero communication. More »
Motorola Razr Maxx: An Android Phone With a Battery That Might Actually Last You a Whole Day [Android]
We really liked Motorola’s Droid RAZR. It was crazy-thin, water-tight, and had a form factor we’d never seen. Too bad its battery life was sub-awesome. The RAZR MAXX is a little thicker, but it should keep you untethered from outlets ’till bedtime. More »

DingleBerry breaks PlayBook free from RIM’s chains (again), Android Market access makes a comeback
To root or not to root? For savvy PlayBook owners running beta 2.0, that should no longer be a question. With the recent release of DingleBerry, users comfortable with command lines have been enjoying superuser privileges on the slate, but the fun could’ve been short-lived. RIM moved swiftly to issue an update that addressed the security hole, effectively crippling the exploit. But as hacker Chris Wade made known via Twitter last night, a new workaround has already been finagled. Full Android Market access has, once again, been restored to the tab, although there’s still no fix for Hulu just yet. So, if you’re keen to reap the unintended fruits of Waterloo’s 7-incher, you’ll likely want to sidestep any further OTA updates. Or, y’know, you could actually just buy a proper Honeycomb tablet.

Exclusive: Lenovo also working on a 5-inch Android tablet, because pockets need love too
No matter how tempting the specs on Lenovo’s leaked 10.1-inch tablet are, you might prefer something fairly more portable just for the sake of your regular pockets. Well, it looks like Lenovo’s got you covered, too. Freshly delivered from the same anonymous tipster are a stash of photos depicting a dual-core 5-inch Android tablet, which will apparently be marketed under the usual LePad brand in China as well as an upcoming IdeaTab brand for elsewhere (to help differentiate tablets from the IdeaPad laptop line).
Not much else is known about this device, but the photos below do show a micro-USB port, HDMI output, a front-facing camera and presumably three capacitive buttons (which could mean it won’t be launching with Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich). There’s a strong resemblance to the Dell Streak 5 here if you ask us, though despite the earpiece-like feature next to the front camera, our source couldn’t confirm whether this tablet packs voice call capability (like the Galaxy Note and Pantech Vega No.5). Anyhow, stay tuned as we dig for more info.

Siri, Coming To an Android Near You? [SIRI]
We already know that Siri does most of its processing server-side, and that Apple’s claims of hardware as a limiting factor are tenuous at best. But new research from French developer Applidium reveals that Apple is truly full of it. More »
BlackBerry Playbook 2.0 developer beta previewed, Android apps look right at home (video)
Are you in DevCon withdrawal? Need a little BBX preview to ferry you safely into the weekend’s arms? Well, you’re in luck, as German site Macberry.de took the time to film a walkthrough of the recently released BlackBerry Playbook 2.0 developer beta. The homescreen of this new build now offers users folder options similar to that on iOS, neatly collecting your gaggles of data into appropriate bundles — like documents and games. But you probably care less about that, and more about seeing BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps in action. We’re happy to report those Google-specific applications are shown here running quite smoothly, filling the 7-inch tab’s screen without any hint of lag. You can download the dev build now for your own first-hand account, or simply click on past the break to gawk at the silent tour.

Bobsled by T-Mobile’s free VoIP magic now available via browser, Android or iOS
Initially, T-Mobile’s Bobsled brand simply offered a way to VoIP call your Facebook friends for free but with that angle sufficiently covered, it has moved on to wider access. Starting today it supports dialing out to mobile and landline numbers in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico right from their desktop browser. Also new are free apps for Android and iOS devices, however those are still limited to calling your Facebook friends (and enemies.) Still not quite sure what all this newfangled internet telephone business is? Check out the video demo above and press release embedded after the break.

Xiaomi Phone to get vanilla Android 2.3.5 next month, Ice Cream Sandwich in January
By now most of you may already know that the attractively priced Xiaomi Phone will support both MIUI and vanilla Android ROMs (though not simultaneously on its dual-partition system); but earlier today, CEO Lei Jun confirmed that October will see the release of said device’s vanilla Android 2.3.5 ROM, meaning the keen beans won’t have to wait long after the Xiaomi Phone’s launch in the same month.
More interestingly, Lei also announced that his Beijing-based chums will be rolling out a vanilla 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich build in January, which is about two or three months after Eric Schimdt’s expected launch date. Sounds about right if you look at previous releases, and we shall look forward to observing the epic 4.0 battle between the Xiaomi Phone, the ASUS Padfone and the rumored Nexus Prime.
