Is Over-the-Top Packaging Really the Best Way To Sell Vodka? [Booze]
Companies like Apple have made a push towards minimizing the packaging for their products. But apparently that ethos simply doesn’t exist for makers of high-end Vodka, like Belvedere, who packaged its hooch in a box that looks like a photographer’s studio flash. More »
Ask Engadget: best quick-shutter camera for under $700?
“I’m about to become a new parent and my not-so-tech-savvy wife thinks we need a ridiculous DSLR to get good, quick pics of our new child. I argue there are plenty of cameras out there with fast shutter speeds that won’t cost us too much, but I don’t know what exactly to look for. I want to take quick pictures to capture those really cute shots that other cameras miss. What’s a good camera that I can get less for 0?”
Camera experts, baby owners, people who balance objects on your pets, what’s the camera you can rely on to catch those split-second moments of cuteness? Our thoughts lead us toward the Nikon J1′s motion snapshot, or the Sony NEX-C3, but perhaps someone out there knows the perfect baby-snapping camera? Dear friends, the floor — by which we mean the comments feed below — is yours.

Ask Engadget: best mini stereo for use with AirPort Express
We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is coming to us from Gaurav, who can’t seem to contain his excitement for cord-free audio. And we can’t blame him. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.
“Pretty simple: I am looking to purchase a small stereo system which can fit on a side table, and can connect to AirPort Express. Something stylish, but more importantly, reliable. Thanks!”
Any of you kitchen thrashers care to spill the beans on your preferred system? If so, comments are welcoming one and all down below.

Ask Engadget: best wireless keyboard with built-in trackpad?
We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Calvin, who’s presumably looking for the ultimate HTPC keyboard for use in his increasingly swank living roon. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.
I’m an analyst and a lot of what I do requires me to quickly switch back and forth between using my keyboard and mouse. I’ve learned a lot of keyboard shortcuts and have even built macros to alleviate the need for so much switching, but alas, it’s not enough. I’ve started looking for a wireless keyboard that has a built-in touchpad — that way, my fingers are just a few inches away being able to manipulate the on-screen pointer at any given moment. I need one that has a ten-key pad and and dedicated F-keys. Is there anyone out there that has some experience with something like this and that has found one that actually works well? Please help!
Two in one. We get it. If you do as well, drop your suggestion(s) in comments below.

HTC Thunderbolt delayed until March 4th, says a Best Buy store with a Twitter account
Wondering why the Thunderbolt isn’t in stores yet? Hard to say — apart from the reeling HTC and Verizon employees might be doing in light of the Apple / Intel news — but a Best Buy in California spilled the bad news on Twitter last night that it’s now expecting Big Red’s first LTE phone on March 4th. As Android Police points out, the store appears to have confused the day March 4th falls on (it’s a Friday, not a Thursday), but we’re figuring it’s far more likely the date is right, not the day of the week. And if Best Buy has a launch exclusive on this thing, that means it could be another week or two beyond that before the phone shows up in Verizon retail locations and elsewhere. Bummer, eh?

Motorola Xoom coming to Best Buy on February 24th, HTC Thunderbolt on the 14th
We’re already fatigued of reporting launch dates for devices announced at this year’s CES — it seems like each one has had at least four different potential release points — but when you get one of Best Buy’s official Facebook pages blabbing about when the Moto Xoom and HTC Thunderbolt will be arriving… well, you sum up the strength to do it one more time. Contrary to earlier insider leaks pinning the Xoom to a February 17th launch, Best Buy is now promising to have the vanguard of the Honeycomb tablet revolution on February 24th. That’s exactly a week later than our earlier info, so perhaps somebody somewhere decided to push things back a bit. We have no doubt, however, that Motorola is nearly ready with its slate — there have been plenty of them spotted around the Super Bowl this week. In the meantime, HTC’s LTE-equipped 4.3-incher seems to have finally settled down on Valentine’s Day as its time of reckoning, a day after the similarly sized Inspire 4G hits AT&T.

Leak: BlackBerry Dakota Specs Are Best Yet (For RIM, That Is) [BlackBerry]
BGR has a track record when it comes to BlackBerry leaks, and it’s not like we haven’t heard the model name “Dakota” before. Why then do I—a former BB fangirl—feel so lacklustre about these rumored specs? More »
Ask Engadget: best sound system / soundbar for around $100?
We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Colin, who needs his jams on the cheap. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.
“I have been looking for a decent set of speakers that can kick out fairly good sound. Ideally, I’d use these in a bedroom, mostly for television viewing and Xbox gaming. I don’t need anything too powerful as I’m not filling a gigantic room with sound. I’ve heard good things about Logitech boxed kits, but have also heard that soundbars are great space-saving alternatives. I’m open to pretty much anything: HTIB, soundbars, etc, but am hoping to spend around 0 or less. Thank you!”
We know, you’re looking to pinch pennies in order to take that special someone out on a fantastically fine date tomorrow. We get it. But these days, 0 can actually buy you quite a bit of sound. We’d echo those positive sentiments on Logitech’s boxed kits, but if anyone has any other input, comments are open down below.
